Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

Here are the simplest methods to order a repeat prescription:

Collecting your Prescription

You can usually collect your prescription 4 to 5 working days after you order it. If you collect from a pharmacy, you must nominate where you would like to collect your prescription.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • On the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • At your GP surgery
  • At any pharmacy accepting repeat prescriptions

Collecting Medication on Behalf of Someone Else

You can collect medication for a friend, neighbour, or family member if they have asked you to do so.

What You Need to Provide:

  • Full name, address, and date of birth of the person you are collecting for

  • You may be required to sign the back of the prescription

  • If they are entitled to free NHS prescriptions or hold a pre-payment certificate, you may be asked to provide proof of exemption

  • If they do not qualify for free prescriptions, payment will be required at the time of collection

Collecting Controlled Medicines

If the medication is classed as a controlled drug, the dispenser will ask you to provide proof of your identity, such as a driving licence or other valid photo ID.

Queries about your medication

The NHS website supplies information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects, and answers to your most frequently asked questions.
